Getting started

Get an account, join your gym or train on your own, and set up the phone, the watch and the web app.

iPhone Apple Watch Android Web Athletes Coaches Owners and admins

How accounts work

One CrossAdapt account works everywhere: the iPhone app, the Apple Watch app, the Android app, and the web app at app.crossadapt.app. Sign in with the same email on each and you see the same plan, results and gym.

Accounts are by invitation. There are two ways to get one:

  • Through your gym. If your gym uses CrossAdapt, it invites you, or you ask to join on its join page. The app is free with a membership at a CrossAdapt gym.
  • On your own. Request an invitation on the sign-up page and train with your own programming on the personal plan. See Pricing.

Every account is an athlete, coaches and owners included, so staff log their own training the same way members do. Staff roles (Owner, Admin, Coach, Front desk) come on top of that, from the gym.

Join your gym

If the gym invites you

Staff add you to the gym and send an invitation. Open the email, follow the link, and create your account with the email it was sent to. You become a member as soon as you accept.

If you ask to join

  1. Open the link your gym gave you, or go to the sign-up page, choose With a gym, type your gym's address and tap Go to my gym's join page.
  2. Fill in your first and last name, your email and, if you like, your phone. If the gym gave you a Join code at the desk, type it in.
  3. Under Which plan?, pick the membership you want, or Not sure yet. Add anything the gym should know.
  4. Tap Send request. The request goes to the gym's staff, who approve it. Approval emails you an invitation.
  5. Open the invitation and create your account.
Skip the wait

A plan marked Pay online can be paid by card on the join page with Pay now. Paying lets you in straight away (“You're in”) without waiting for approval, and the invitation email follows.

If you already have an account

Someone who trained on their own, or belongs to another gym, accepts the new gym from the invitation's link (Accept invitation), or signs in and accepts it from Profile › My gym. Your history comes with you.

If your gym moved from another system

Your gym may bring your old records across. On the web app's Today you'll see “Your gym brought N PRs from its old system”: choose Merge into my history to keep them, or Discard. If the gym brought you across before you'd signed up, your first sign-in picks up that history on its own.

Train on your own

  1. On the sign-up page, choose On my own, give your email, and tap the button to start.
  2. Open the invitation email and create your account.
  3. Sign in on your phone or at app.crossadapt.app. Your free trial starts the first time you sign in.
  4. Build your week in Plan: write your own pieces, schedule the Girls, Heroes and Open from the benchmark library, or lay out a strength progression from your own maxes. If you keep your programming in Beyond the Whiteboard or SugarWOD, connect it on the iPhone (Connections).

The personal plan is paid by card on the web: Profile › Your CrossAdapt plan › Pay by card at app.crossadapt.app. If it goes unpaid, the account becomes read-only: everything still shows, but saving is off until it's paid. If you join a CrossAdapt gym later, the gym covers you and there's nothing more to pay.

Install the apps

iPhone
CrossAdapt from the App Store. Needs iOS 26 or later.
Apple Watch
Installs with the iPhone app. If it doesn't appear, open the Watch app on the iPhone and go to My Watch › Available Apps. Needs watchOS 26 or later.
Android
CrossAdapt from Google Play. Needs Android 10 or later. There's no watch app for Android; see On Android.
Web
Open app.crossadapt.app in any browser. Nothing to install. Gym staff do most of their setup here.

  1. Open the app. You'll see Continue to CrossAdapt.
  2. Sign in with the email you were invited with, or with Sign in with Apple. There's no sign-up inside the apps: the invitation creates the account.
  3. The first time, CrossAdapt sets up your athlete. If “Setting up your athlete” stays for more than a minute, tap Try again.

The watch doesn't need its own sign-in. Once the iPhone is signed in, it gives the watch a key of its own so the watch can fetch the day and save results directly. You can see the key's state, and issue a new one, in Profile › Account (Issue watch key now).

The apps ask for permissions when they're first needed, not all at once: Apple Health when Profile first opens, notifications from Profile › My gym › Get notices on this phone, and heart rate on the watch when it first loads the day.

Which app does what

AppBest for
iPhoneEverything an athlete does: today's workout, logging, adapting, Plan, History and charts, Community, booking classes. Coaches run a class, score athletes and drive the gym's screens from here.
Apple WatchRunning the workout: the clock, rounds, reps, intervals, rest, loads, distance and heart rate. Saves the result as you finish.
AndroidThe same as the iPhone, logged after the workout rather than run on a watch.
WebEverything athletes do except running a workout, on a bigger screen, plus paying the gym. For staff: publishing programming, members, billing, settings, reports, and the screens on the wall.

On Android

The Android app has the same five tabs and the same screens as the iPhone, with the same words on the buttons, so the rest of this guide applies. The differences:

  • No watch and no live clock. You log each piece after you've done it. When you tap Didn't finish on a piece the clock ended, the phone asks how far into the last movement you got (for example “Reps into Burpees”), which the watch would otherwise ask.
  • No heart rate. The heart-rate and recovery charts stay empty for workouts logged on Android.
  • No Beyond the Whiteboard or SugarWOD connection. Follow your gym's tracks or write your own.
  • No share cards in History, and the records card after a save is a plain summary.
  • Health Connect gives the app your latest body weight only, when you allow it. Your date of birth is typed into Profile › Body.
  • Notifications are only asked for from Profile › My gym › Get notices on this phone.

Coaches and owners get everything the iPhone gives them, including the class screen, live scores and pairing screens.
